WHOAMI
I’m not sure what I’ll be posting here yet, but I thought I’d start by sharing a bit about myself for anyone who comes across this. My name is J, and I’ve been passionate about technology since I was around 12. My first computer was an old machine labeled as trash from a neighbor who was a programmer at a company decommissioning their older systems. It had a 28k modem and ran Windows 3.1. I eventually pirated Windows 95, and soon I was using dialers to access services like NetZero and Juno without limitations. The internet felt much smaller back then, and I miss those days. It was like the wild west, a playground for NetBios hacking, website defacing, and database injections. If you wanted to learn something new, you could jump into an IRC chat and get schooled. While it wasn’t very ethical, it taught me foundational skills that led to my current career as a technical architect. Doing what you love for money can make it less fun, but it has given me a very comfortable life, so I can’t complain. I also had a daughter last year, and it’s been an incredible experience. I wonder what her technology experience will be like. Will she eventually use VR that’s indistinguishable from real life? Will AI take over technical jobs in her lifetime? Will social media completely destroy what’s left of the internet? These are the things I think about at night. I know I’m rambling, so maybe it’s time to go to sleep.
